Le sue modelle erano spesso più naturali ed in pose meno studiate e artificiose di quelle dei suoi omologhi maschili come Gil Elvgren, Earl Gross, Al Moore, Coby Whitmore, Thornton Utz e Al Buell.

Nel 1945 Brown & Bigelow presentarno Joyce Ballantyne al loro staff di marketing e come "la giovane stella più luminosa all'orizzonte dell'arte dell'illustrazione".
