L'Inkan (印鑑) è il caratteristico sigillo in legno che permette di apporre la firma.

Questo tipo di timbri sono realizzati nei materiali più svariati: pietra, metallo, legno, bambu, plastica ecc. E sono usati tipicamente con l'inchiostro rosso.

'Ginko-in' (銀行印) è il nome giapponese dei sigilli bancari, 'Mitome-in' (認印) viene usato per funzioni postali. 'Gago-in' (雅号印) per firmare opere artistiche.
