Forester Horatio Hornblower
Come dimostra il pitch originale di Star Trek datato 11 marzo 1964, è Horatio Hornblower, personaggio creato da C.S Forester, l'ispirazione per il capitano Kirk (e anche per Picard).

Da tre dei dodici racconti originali è tratto anche un film del 1951 con Gregory Peck che interpreta il capitano al comando della HMS Lydia.
